Horizontal Hoop

Just a quick update,
the horizontal hoop I am having made for the show is arriving at my apartment within this week. So now, once I get the 4 spansets I need to hook it up, I will now have 2 of 3 apparatus needed for the show :)
I'll take pictures as soon as possible.

FUNDING

Hello, my name is T Lawrence-Simon, and I have been an aerial circus student for a little over two years now at the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, and I am currently a theater major in my 3^rd year at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. During the summers, I work at Circus Smirkus Camp in Vermont, a camp focused on teaching circus arts to kids aged 6-18.

I have just finished an intensive semester long school program called the Headlong Performance Institute. During this past semester, I have learned and worked in many techniques and areas of physical theater and performance art, and learned a lot about who I am as an artist. In addition to Headlong Performance Institute, I have been increasing my training in aerial circus and have even performed at the Chestnut Hill "Fall for the Arts Festival" and Studio 34 in West Philadelphia. During the Headlong Performance Institute, all 16 students studied the same courses and learned the same skills, but we all applied them to our work in vastly different ways. This was shone most obviously during our end of semester show. For our final projects, we all were given the opportunity to create a work that would be presented together as a full length show at the end of term. All 16 students created very different pieces that used many of the skills we learned while in this program. My final piece was a mix of the technical artistry of aerial circus and the techniques of clown with a dramatic narrative about a character who was unable to get comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Recently, I performed my final piece and it was well received by the audience, I invited both my theater friends and my circus friends, in addition to the huge public audience that turned out both nights, and all the feedback was great. My favorite compliment was when people said that they forgot I was performing circus, and just experienced their connection with the character. Above all else, I had many people suggest to keep working with my character and the piece itself because they thought it was really special. Well, after speaking with my teachers and coaches, I have decided I will expand my original piece into a full length show and perform it at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival next September.

Artistically, this will be exciting, but financially it is a bit of an undertaking. For instance, to participate in the festival alone (with show description and photo in the festival guide) it costs $275. In addition to that, I am getting two specially designed apparatus pieces for the show. I would appreciate any donation you would be able to make to the show, and would discuss with you whether you would like an ad in the program or just a special thanks. Thank you.
